Handbook on New Criminal Laws, By Taxmann’s Editorial Board

Handbook on New Criminal Laws is a meticulously structured and practitioner-focused reference to India’s transformed criminal justice framework under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) 2023. In a single consolidated volume of over 430 pages, this Handbook explains the substantive, procedural, and evidentiary reforms introduced by the new Codes. It provides a complete roadmap for transitioning from the earlier laws—IPC, CrPC, and the Evidence Act. The book is distinguished by its eight-division architecture, combining analytical commentary, alphabetical keys, section-wise guides, punishment charts, compoundability indexes, and exhaustive comparative tables that map old and new provisions side by side. The Handbook captures every legislative refinement and operational change necessary for professionals navigating this major legal transition.

This Handbook is designed for every stakeholder working with the criminal justice system, including:

• Criminal Lawyers & Litigators – For quick referencing, structured comparisons, and doctrinal clarity on redefined offences and procedures
• Judges, Prosecutors & Court Staff – For day-to-day judicial application, especially during the transition period, where old precedents must be traced to new provisions
• Police Officers, Investigators & Enforcement Agencies – For updated rules on arrest, investigation, summons, warrants, digital recording of search and seizure, and classification of offences
• Academicians, Law Students & Researchers – For conceptual understanding, academic study, and research into legislative reform
• Government Authorities, Policy Units & Compliance Teams – For drafting, implementation, and training relating to the new Codes
